[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Cosmax NBT, a specialized research, development, and manufacturing (ODM) company for health functional foods, announced on the 29th that its individual recognition-type ingredient for skin health, 'Agatri,' has been registered as a New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
NDI is a system that permits the use of new health functional food ingredients in the U.S. once they pass all FDA-required reviews, including manufacturing processes and human safety assessments.
Most skin health functional food ingredients currently distributed in the market rely heavily on imports from overseas. 'Agatri' is an ingredient extracted from the native Korean herb, baechohyang, and is known as 'Korean Mintra,' reflecting its distinctly Korean origin.
Traditionally, it has been known to be effective for skin diseases and has been found to help maintain skin health by moisturizing the skin and protecting it from damage caused by ultraviolet rays.
Agatri was developed with support from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' World Class 300 national project. The research results have been published in a total of four academic papers covering cell experiments, animal experiments, human application tests, and validation of marker component testing methods.
Yoon Won-il, CEO of Cosmax NBT, stated, “Starting with the U.S. NDI registration of Agatri, which has secured global safety, we will further accelerate the development of innovative inner beauty materials and the overseas sales activation of health functional foods.”
