Shinsegae International Launches 'Le Grand Tour' Collection Celebrating Diptyque's 60th Anniversary


[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Diptyque, a French perfume brand imported and sold by Shinsegae International, announced on the 29th that it will launch the 'Le Grand Tour' collection, which captures the scents of five cities that inspired the brand.


Diptyque is a first-generation niche perfume brand founded in 1961 by three artists who studied design. The name Diptyque comes from the French word for a "two-panel folding painting," inspired by the two shop windows in the Paris Saint-Germain store.


The 'Le Grand Tour' perfume, commemorating the brand's 60th anniversary, is a collection that recreates the olfactory memories of travel destinations where Diptyque's founders gained creative inspiration over 60 years. The scents of five cities?Paris in France, Venice in Italy, Milies in Greece, Kyoto in Asia, and Byblos in the Middle East?have been transformed into candles, perfumes, and solid fragrances.


The 'Paris Candle' is a scented candle that evokes a walk along the Seine River lined with willow trees. The 'Venice Eau de Toilette,' inspired by Venice, a city frequently visited by the founders, is a travel-sized perfume set reminiscent of a garden by the lakeside where green plants like bell peppers and basil grow.


The 'Milies Scented Oval' is a solid fragrance expressing the feeling of strolling along the paths of the beach village of Milies in Greece, decorated with marble beads and tassels inspired by traditional Milies necklaces. The 'Kyoto Eau de Toilette' is composed of scents and rose vetiver representing the three elements of Eastern flower arrangement: sky, human, and worldly connection.


Lastly, the 'Byblos Candle' is a large candle created with the oldest port city in the Middle East in mind, featuring Santos coffee tobacco and refreshing cedarwood.


A representative from Shinsegae International Diptyque stated, “Diptyque is a representative brand that opened the door to the domestic niche perfume market in the early 2000s and continues to be loved as an introductory brand for niche perfumes. We plan to focus our capabilities to ensure that Diptyque’s unique heritage, philosophy, and artistic value are well expressed in Korea.”
