The selected projects include ▲ Hyanggyo and Seowon Cultural Heritage Utilization Projects (2 projects) ▲ Old House and Jonggatjip Utilization Project ▲ Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage Project ▲ ICT-based Immersive Content Development Support Project.
Wolbong Seowon has been selected for 9 consecutive years, Muyang Seowon for 7 years, and Old House Utilization for 3 years in a row.
Newly included are ‘Open the Time Capsule of the Gwangju Sinchang-dong Site,’ utilizing the national cultural heritage Sinchang-dong site, and ‘Ride the Metaverse and Wander Wolbong,’ an immersive experience platform responding to the post-COVID era.
In particular, the ICT immersive content project plans to implement Wolbong Seowon in the metaverse using virtual reality, providing a new way to enjoy cultural heritage.
Only 13 projects nationwide were selected, and Gwangsan-gu was the only district in Gwangju to be named.
The projects selected in the Hyanggyo and Seowon category are ‘2022, Meet Gobong Again’ and ‘Muyang in the City,’ which will promote various humanities education, experiences, performances, and forums utilizing Wolbong Seowon and Muyang Seowon, respectively.
Next year marks the 450th anniversary of Gobong Gidae-seung’s passing, and plans are underway to create an exchange platform that reexamines the teacher’s thoughts and philosophy.
The Old House and Jonggatjip category project, ‘Gwangsan Four Seasons Dream - Two Days of Dreaming (夢想),’ plans to operate programs that reinterpret the meanings and values contained in houses such as Yong-a Saengga, Kim Bongho House, and Jangdeok-dong Modern Hanok, tailored to each house.
A Gwangsan-gu official stated, “We will actively utilize Gwangsan-gu’s cultural heritage to create a competitive cultural experience space,” adding, “We will develop various programs that can contribute to regional cultural development and economic revitalization.”
