[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City announced on the 28th that it has started green remodeling construction on the aging Incheon Jeil Municipal Elderly Dementia Care Hospital. This is aimed at improving energy performance and indoor air quality.

Green remodeling is a project that improves the energy efficiency and air quality of old buildings while creating a comfortable and healthy living environment.

The city was selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public building green remodeling contest and plans to complete the hospital remodeling by February next year with over 1.5 billion KRW in national funds and other support.

The old existing windows will be replaced with high-performance windows, and the exterior wall insulation will be reinforced. To use energy efficiently, an energy management system will be installed in the building, and a smart air shower capable of purifying the air will also be installed.

Built in 2001, this hospital is a 137-bed facility specializing in elderly diseases and is carrying out various dementia-related projects.

An official from Incheon City stated, "The Incheon Ijil Municipal Elderly Dementia Care Hospital will also undergo detailed design starting in the second half of this year for green remodeling," adding, "We expect that the green remodeling project will improve the quality of public services by enabling dementia patients to receive treatment in a safer and more comfortable environment."

Meanwhile, due to the aging of public buildings used by vulnerable groups, deterioration of insulation, occurrence of condensation and mold, as well as the spread of fine dust have led to poor indoor environments. Therefore, green remodeling is being promoted as part of the Korean-style New Deal project (Green New Deal), a new growth engine in the post-COVID-19 era.
