[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] A citizen who blocked a vehicle driven by an unconscious driver with his own car and carried out rescue activities will receive a commendation.
The Chungnam Fire Headquarters announced on the 27th that they plan to commend Mr. Lee (58), who played a decisive role in rescuing a driver who had collapsed inside a car by blocking the oncoming vehicle with his own car.
Mr. Lee, who resides in Asan, was driving toward Jochiwon on a two-lane road in Dongsan-ri, Tangjeong-myeon, at around 11:26 a.m. on the 26th when he noticed an SUV slowly crossing the center line from the opposite lane. Sensing something was wrong, Mr. Lee blocked the SUV with his car and got out to check the driver's seat.
Inside the car, the driver was slumped toward the passenger side, convulsing. Upon discovering this, Mr. Lee immediately called 119 and, along with other drivers, guided traffic to prevent a secondary accident.
Thanks to Mr. Lee's quick actions, the driver regained consciousness shortly after and was transported to a nearby hospital with the help of 119 paramedics who arrived soon after. The driver is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
A representative from the Chungnam Fire Headquarters said, "Mr. Lee's quick judgment to prevent a secondary accident and his calm reporting to 119 exemplify commendable civic spirit."
