Korea Railroad Launches 'National Safety Inspection' for Railway Facilities Nationwide

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Railroad announced on the 28th that it will conduct a 'National Safety Inspection' on railway facilities nationwide until the 29th of next month.

The National Safety Inspection is a preventive activity in which the government, public institutions, and citizens participate to check the overall safety management status of society and improve risk factors.

This year's inspection targets are 99 locations nationwide, including bridges, tunnels, and slopes vulnerable to natural disasters, as well as stations with high passenger traffic.

Korea Railroad will form a joint inspection team of about 80 people, including the Korea Rail Network Authority and private experts, to conduct detailed inspections of 22 bridges, 10 tunnels, 52 rockfall and slope areas, and 15 stations.

In particular, this year, advanced equipment such as drones and tunnel scanners will be used to meticulously inspect blind spots that are difficult to check with the naked eye, enhancing the effectiveness of the safety inspection.

Jung Wang-guk, Acting President of Korea Railroad, said, "We will ensure that citizens can use the railway safely in their daily lives through thorough inspections," adding, "Above all, we will do our best to prepare in advance for heavy snowfall and natural disasters in winter to eliminate any safety blind spots."
