[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) will hold the 26th Gender Equality Week commemorative event at 2 p.m. on the 30th to foster a culture of gender equality.

This commemorative event will feature a variety of programs including a gender equality talk show, a special lecture by a notable figure, appointment of promotional ambassadors, awards for meritorious persons, and a business agreement for women's safety projects under the slogan "Gender Equality Together, Happy Mapo Together."

The event will be hosted by announcer Lee Hyo-jin, formerly of Cheongju MBC, and will take place from 2 p.m. at the Mapo-gu Office 2nd floor auditorium. Due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, it will be broadcast live online via the YouTube channel 'MapoTV' for anyone to watch.

Starting with the award ceremony for citizens who have contributed to gender equality, the event will proceed with a business agreement ceremony with the Seoul Mapo Police Station to create a safe Mapo where everyone can live safely.

The business agreement will be signed and exchanged between Mapo-gu Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun and Seoul Mapo Police Station Chief Lee Jeong-cheol, focusing on sharing information about crime-prone areas and environmental improvement projects to prevent crimes against women.

After the agreement ceremony, comedian Kim Kyung-ah, who appeared on the JTBC observational entertainment show 'Can't Be No.1' featuring a comedian couple and is a former KBS Gag Concert comedian, will be appointed as a promotional ambassador for Mapo-gu's women-friendly city.

Following this, comedian Kim Kyung-ah will leverage her experience hosting the parenting mom healing concert 'Two Mom Show' to lead the 'Gender Equality Talk Show.'

The talk show will be conducted with 50 citizens through the online platform 'Zoom' in an interactive communication format, where Mapo-gu Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun will answer pre-submitted questions about Mapo-gu's gender equality policies.

In the subsequent special lecture, Kim Ji-yoon, director of the Good Relationship Research Institute who appeared on tvN's 'Accidental Adult' and 'Star Special Lecture Show,' will give a lecture titled ": Emotional Communication Methods for Creating Gender Equality."

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) operated the 'Cheer Up Bus' at the district office plaza on the 28th to deliver messages of support to COVID-19 response personnel and provide drinks and snacks to comfort the exhausted staff.

The 'Cheer Up Bus,' jointly operated with Seoul City, is a psychological support project aimed at promoting psychological recovery and stability for COVID-19 response personnel experiencing high levels of stress.

Additionally, the district is implementing various projects to support staff exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 response, including linking and supporting professional counseling centers, health checkup subsidies, online healing camps, and non-face-to-face home training classes.

Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, "I deeply thank the staff working on the front lines of COVID-19 response," adding, "I hope this provides a moment of rest for their tired bodies and minds, and we will continue to prioritize employee welfare and understand their needs."

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) will conduct safety inspections of 139 multi-use facilities by October 29 during the national safety diagnosis period in September and October.

Considering the need for focused quarantine due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, inspections will focus on key facilities such as old buildings, demolition and excavation sites, and traditional markets. Facilities inspected within the last three months and COVID-19 response facilities are excluded from on-site inspections.

Private experts and public officials from each field will jointly conduct inspections. Minor issues found during the diagnosis will be immediately addressed on-site, while serious issues will be promptly handled through repairs, reinforcement, suspension of use, or evacuation orders.

Inspection results will be disclosed through the 'Safety Inspection Integrated Management System' by November 30.

Additionally, the district is producing and distributing self-safety inspection checklists to foster participation in voluntary safety inspections across the district. It is also working to activate resident participation by discovering diagnosis targets through safety-related citizen groups.

The 'Gwanak Sori' newsletter published on the 27th distributed 90,000 copies of home-use self-safety inspection checklists. About 3,000 multi-use facilities such as restaurants in the area received industry-specific checklists so that business owners can autonomously inspect facility safety, electrical safety, gas safety, and fire safety.

The self-safety inspection checklist, which allows residents to check the safety of their homes and stores themselves, can also be downloaded from the 'Safety Report App,' where results can be confirmed after inspection.

The high-quality non-face-to-face education program aims to provide lifelong learning opportunities to residents even during the COVID-19 situation and help develop job skills.

Gangseo Saeromi University is a professional certification acquisition program operated in cooperation with KC University in the region.

This education will be conducted in real-time interactive online sessions using the video conferencing platform 'Zoom' from October 18 to December 16, twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., lasting about two hours each.

Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) conducted 'Ice Pack Collection Days' on the 23rd and 24th after the Chuseok holiday, collecting about 600 ice packs from district office employees.

With the recent increase in delivery packaging due to COVID-19 and holidays, the initiative aims to collect and reuse ice packs that are difficult to dispose of in refrigerators. The district also collected about 400 ice packs last February before the Lunar New Year, which were sterilized and distributed to local traditional market stores.

Ice packs are not recyclable waste and must be disposed of in designated garbage bags, but microplastics in gel-filled ice packs can cause environmental pollution.

Therefore, the district collects and reuses ice packs separately through the 'Eunpyeong Green Moa Moa' project and 'Ice Pack Collection Days.'

To facilitate convenient disposal, collection boxes are installed at 150 'Eunpyeong Green Moa Moa' locations and community centers. About 4,400 sterilized and cleaned ice packs have been distributed to small business owners and self-employed persons this year for reuse.

Eunpyeong-gu Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, "Seeing ice packs in delivery packages always felt wasteful to throw away, so we started this project. I hope the small actions of Eunpyeong-gu employees will have a positive influence and encourage more residents to participate."

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will complete the 'Safe Kyungdong Elementary School School Route Project' by the end of this month, which has been underway for about three years.

The entire project section is approximately 190 meters long, between Kyungdong Elementary School on Seongsuil-ro 4-gil and Kumho Bestville, with a road width of 4.8 to 6 meters. The school route features various traffic safety facilities such as raised crosswalks with textured surfaces to slow vehicles and protective fences, allowing students to commute safely.

This section is a semi-industrial area with many pedestrians including students, and dense apartments, office buildings, and shops. It lacked clear separation between sidewalks and roads, posing constant safety risks and frequent complaints.

The project was initiated by residents and secured funding through the 2018 'Walkable Seoul Citizen Contest.' However, utilizing school and kindergarten land was essential to create the route, and the narrow road width made additional sidewalk expansion difficult.

To use school land, related agencies and parents held dozens of meetings and negotiations. In October last year, a joint business agreement was signed by the Seongdong-gu Mayor, Seongdong Gwangjin Education Support Office Superintendent, Kyungdong Elementary School Principal, and Kyungdong Kindergarten Director. A 14-member working committee including related agencies, residents, and parents was also formed, establishing unprecedented public-private-academic governance.

Through this, by the end of last year, the Seoul Metropolitan Council and Kyungdong Elementary and Kindergarten approved the use of 285㎡ of school land, securing the school route area. Construction began in July during summer vacation and will conclude this month with the creation of a safe school route.

A parent, Ms. A, who witnessed the entire process, said, "Now I can send my child to school without worry. I used to walk nervously holding my child's hand, but with this school route, I feel truly relieved."

Seongdong-gu Mayor Jung Won-oh said, "This project is the result of three years of dedicated efforts with residents for children's safety," adding, "It is a meaningful model case and achievement of resolving local issues through long deliberation and collaboration among residents, schools, kindergartens, and administrative agencies." He emphasized, "Child safety is a core value of our district, and we prioritize school route improvement projects. We will continue to do our best to prevent traffic accidents in child protection zones and secure safe school routes."

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) is implementing the 'Elderly Oriental Medicine Health Promotion Project' to improve the health and quality of life of senior citizens.

The project uses standardized Oriental medicine health programs familiar to the elderly, such as acupuncture and herbal medicine prescriptions, to prevent depression and dementia.

This project targets residents aged 60 or older in Geumcheon-gu who are classified as high-risk in cognitive function and depression screening tests, recruiting up to 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Interested seniors must visit designated Oriental medicine clinics for screening tests and will be selected based on results. Blood test costs are borne by the participant. Those currently diagnosed with dementia and under medication or diagnosed with moderate or higher dementia by an Oriental medicine doctor cannot participate.

Selected seniors will receive free acupuncture treatments and herbal medicine prescriptions in decoction or granule form at designated clinics. There are nine designated clinics in Geumcheon-gu, listed on the Geumcheon-gu Public Health Center website.

Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon said, "This project is expected to reduce medical expenses for cerebrovascular diseases and help prevent depression and dementia among seniors," adding, "We will continue to provide various health management services to help seniors enjoy healthy old age."

Jung-gu (Mayor Seo Yang-ho) announced that from October, residents can exchange recyclable transparent PET bottles, paper packs (such as milk cartons), and used batteries for designated garbage bags.

The recyclable waste bag exchange project aims to increase collection rates of economically valuable waste resources like paper packs and used batteries and provide residents with direct opportunities to participate in resource circulation activities to address environmental issues.

Residents can collect 20 transparent PET bottles and exchange them for one 10-liter designated garbage bag by visiting their local community center every Thursday. Eligible PET bottles include transparent beverage and water bottles, including transparent milk and Makgeolli bottles.

Bottles must be emptied, cleaned, labels removed, crushed, and caps closed before placing 20 bottles in transparent or translucent bags and bringing them to the community center.

Paper packs include milk, soy milk, and juice packs marked recyclable. After emptying, rinsing with water, unfolding, drying, and bundling with string, they can be exchanged for one 10-liter garbage bag. For 200ml packs, 100 must be collected; for 500ml, 55; and for 1000ml, 35.

Used batteries of any size or type (AA, AAA, etc.) can be exchanged by collecting 10 units for one 10-liter garbage bag. Alkaline batteries, manganese batteries, and integrated auxiliary batteries are included.

Used batteries disposed of as general waste cause environmental pollution due to chemicals but recycling recovers valuable metals like iron, zinc, and nickel. This exchange project is expected to promote collection of household used batteries.

Residents can exchange up to five bags per week. Collected PET bottles, paper packs, and used batteries are delivered to Jung-gu Resource Recycling Center the next day for recycling.

Following the contest, a 'Smart Aljja Talk' talk show will provide essential information on the latest IT, internet financial fraud prevention, and more for seniors.

The district will add 60 more AI care robots 'Seoripul Bokdong-i' in October, following the 50 units deployed earlier this year. These robots greet seniors every morning, remind them to take medicine, and provide companionship with playful interactions to prevent solitary deaths.

Furthermore, Seocho-gu offers online events to help seniors escape the untact daily life and find happiness and fun. The senior-only cultural welfare space 'Seocho Nutinamu Shelter' provides a virtual space identical to the real one within the metaverse for seniors to meet.

Using this virtual space, metaverse experience education, metaverse trot concerts, and exhibitions are planned.

After piloting CCTV and remote door devices, satisfaction surveys will be conducted, and based on results, these will be introduced to other public sports facilities along Jungnangcheon.

The 5th Sports Park futsal field is scheduled to open early next year and will operate through advance reservations on the Dongdaemun-gu integrated reservation site managed by the Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation.

The project aims to strengthen small businesses' competitiveness in the non-face-to-face and digital era and revitalize the local economy, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, by promoting online consumption.

Live commerce is a method of selling products through real-time online video streaming, allowing users to interact with hosts and other buyers and purchase products non-face-to-face, gaining popularity as a new shopping channel in the untact era.

The district plans to support local small businesses in developing online sales channels and new sales strategies through live commerce.

The online live shopping event titled 'Yeongdeungpo Small Business LIVE' will be held on November 4-5 via 'Naver Shopping Live' to commemorate Small Business Day on November 5.

Applications for small businesses to participate in live commerce are open until October 13. Eight companies will be selected through evaluation based on project suitability, product quality, and marketability.

Selected companies will receive full support for studio and filming equipment, props, product sales consulting, and show host recruitment. However, sales commissions must be borne by the participating companies.

Eligible applicants are small business owners located in Yeongdeungpo-gu with products or services for sale. Applications should be submitted via email (feel@cwu.co.kr) with a completed application form and business registration certificate downloaded from the Yeongdeungpo-gu website. Results will be individually notified on October 18.

Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il said, "We hope this project supports local small businesses struggling amid the prolonged COVID-19 crisis and contributes to revitalizing the local economy."

Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) will conduct maintenance of 'old and ownerless signs' left unattended for a long time due to business closure or relocation until November.

The project aims to prevent accidents caused by falling signs and provide safer walking environments by maintaining old and ownerless signs on main and side streets.

Targets include 'ownerless signs' left unattended due to business closure or change and 'dangerous signs' with severe deterioration or damage posing safety risks.

Building owners wishing to remove signs must submit a sign removal consent form to the Urban Design Division by visiting, fax, or mail from September 27 to October 8. Applications through the local community center are also accepted.

The community center and Urban Design Division will conduct on-site investigations to verify business closure and ownership. From October 11 to 29, notices for voluntary maintenance will be sent to building owners, allowing about three weeks for voluntary maintenance.

Signs not maintained within the period will be removed after considering removal volume and district conditions and obtaining owner consent. The district will continue to accept reports and maintain old and ownerless signs to prevent accidents after the intensive maintenance period.

The district completed maintenance of 82 signs in 2019, 77 in 2020, and 20 in the first half of this year.

Jongno-gu Mayor Kim Young-jong said, "We aim to create safe and dignified streets through this sign maintenance project," adding, "We will do our best to provide residents with a safe and pleasant living environment."
