[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] The son of a woman in her 50s who sprayed filth on dozens of vehicles in two underground parking lots of apartments in the Busan area posted an apology letter after two months, pleading for leniency.

Earlier, on July 22 around 8:30 p.m., a woman in her 50s, identified as A, was caught by the police on suspicion of property damage after spraying a liquid mixed with urine and toothpaste on about 70 parked vehicles in the underground parking lots of apartments in Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan.

The police, who responded to a resident's report, apprehended Ms. A at the scene, but she showed signs of mental illness and was taken for emergency hospitalization. Related to this, on September 27, about two months later, a photo of an apology letter posted in the affected apartment complex was uploaded to the online community 'Bobaedream.'

The author of the apology letter, who identified himself as Ms. A's son, stated, "First, I want to sincerely apologize. I was overwhelmed and am only now able to contact you."

He said, "Due to my mother, more than about 240 vehicle owners were affected. Although the exact analysis results of the filth's components have not yet been released, regardless of the components, I believe the victims must have felt very unpleasant."

He continued, "There was absolutely no malicious or premeditated intent; it was an impulsive situation caused by my mother's mental health issues. The symptoms appeared after she was estranged from my father several years ago. Although she improved, her condition worsened recently because she did not take her medication properly."

Ms. A's son said, "There have been many incidents, big and small, but this is the first time she has directly harmed others, and I believe the guardian bears great responsibility for this situation."

He added, "Due to living far away and currently serving in the military, I have not been able to fulfill my responsibilities as a guardian. There are several other incidents besides this, and my mother is currently under protective hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital, with arrangements underway."

However, he pleaded, "Despite my shame, I ask for leniency. The number of victims is too large, and I cannot afford monetary compensation on my own, so I am making this request. As a guardian and a son, I will ensure that such an incident never happens again."
