Chungnam to Provide 'Disaster Relief Funds' to All Residents Excluded from Government Support

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province has decided to provide its own disaster relief funds to all local residents excluded from the government's mutual growth national support fund.

According to the province on the 27th, 262,233 residents in Chungnam (12.4% of the total regional population) did not receive the government's mutual growth national support fund.

The province plans to pay 250,000 KRW per person starting next month to these residents to address the imbalance and inequality caused by selective payments.

The support was finalized on the 17th after going through the Chungnam Market and County Governors' Council, local government meetings, and vice mayor and vice county governor meetings.

The budget required for the province's additional support is estimated at a total of 65.6 billion KRW, which will be shared equally between the province and the 15 cities and counties.

Before the support is provided, the province plans to proceed with administrative procedures such as enacting ordinances as the basis for disaster relief fund payments, preparing supplementary budgets, and reviewing by the Personal Information Protection Commission in consultation with cities and counties.

The payment method for the disaster relief funds will allow recipients to choose between local love gift certificates or prepaid cards.

By city and county, Cheonan has the largest number of eligible recipients at 100,745, followed by Asan with 47,550 and Seosan with 26,611.

Meanwhile, as of the 24th, the government's mutual growth national support fund, which has been paid since the 6th, was distributed to 1,727,272 people (93.1%) out of the total 1,855,167 eligible recipients in Chungnam. The total payment amount is approximately 431.819 billion KRW.

The payment rates by city and county are highest in Cheonan at 95.1%, followed by Gyeryong at 95.0%, Asan at 94.6%, Boryeong at 93.1%, and Dangjin and Taean at 92.8%.
