[2021 Asia Construction Awards] Booyoung, 42% Green Area... Installation of Solar Panels and Electric Charging Stations

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] Booyoung, which received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Commendation in the eco-friendly category at this year's Asia Construction Comprehensive Awards, is recognized for incorporating various eco-friendly designs into its apartment complexes.

A representative complex is the Gwangju-Jeonnam Innovation ‘Inno City Ashiang’ supplied in Naju City, Jeonnam Province. ‘Inno City Ashiang,’ located in the Bitgaram-dong 1 area of Naju City, Jeonnam, is an eco-friendly complex with 42.2% of its total area composed of green spaces. This ratio far exceeds the legal standard of 15%, creating a nature-embracing complex that enhances the quality of life for its residents. The large-scale green areas are diversely designed with seven themed specialized gardens, including Seokgasang (rock garden) and ecological ponds. Participatory vegetable gardens where residents can grow their own vegetables, as well as three themed playgrounds for children?water playground, sea playground, adventure playground, and jungle playground?are also provided throughout the complex. Additionally, the natural axis and apartments are arranged in parallel to secure a scenic corridor connected to the southern lakeside park, allowing as many households as possible to enjoy pleasant views.

This complex, consisting of 1,478 households, is located in Gwangju-Jeonnam Innovation City and was built with the concept of an eco-friendly apartment in harmony with nature.

Completed last year, this complex consists of 23 buildings ranging from one basement floor to a maximum of 20 floors above ground, with a total of 1,478 households, all with a single exclusive area of 84㎡. By type, there are ▲84㎡A with 1,318 households, ▲84㎡B with 80 households, and ▲84㎡C with 80 households.

Despite being a large complex nearing 1,500 households, an innovative 4-bay design was introduced for all units, providing excellent natural lighting and ventilation. Benefits such as free provision of system air conditioners in five locations per unit and free balcony expansion also enhance residential practicality. The design prioritizes south-facing units considering sunlight and ventilation, and wide distances between buildings emphasize personal privacy.

Eco-friendly systems have also been actively adopted. Solar panels are installed on the upper parts of all buildings to produce eco-friendly energy. Rainwater collected on the rooftops is used for landscaping water, and charging stations for electric vehicles are provided within the complex. Additionally, LED lighting is installed inside units to help save energy by delivering high efficiency with low power consumption.

A home network system has been implemented inside the units. Through smartphone applications, residents can check visitors and control gas, living room lighting, and heating devices. Using a one-pass card, convenient services such as access to the main entrance, elevator calls, and parking location guidance are available. High-definition CCTV is installed throughout the complex, and a parking guidance control system is also provided in the parking lot. Community facilities include a fitness center, GX room, indoor golf practice range, multipurpose room, reading room, and hobby classrooms, enhancing living convenience.

The location is also highly regarded. This complex is situated in the core area of Naju Innovation City, the largest self-sufficient innovation city in Korea, housing 16 public institutions including Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Nearby are prestigious local schools such as Jeonnam Arts High School and Jeonnam Science High School, as well as the Korea Energy Engineering University scheduled to open next year.

The educational environment for children and transportation conditions are excellent. With Bitnuri Elementary School, Maesung Middle School, and the planned Maesung High School located in front of the complex, commuting is convenient. The nearby Central Lakeside Park offers a pleasant residential environment. The complex is also praised for its excellent transportation access, being close to the Honam Expressway, Gwangju and Muan Airports, KTX and SRT Naju Station, and Gwangju Songjeong Station.
