[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in has indicated that the ban on dog meat consumption should be considered.


According to the Blue House, on the 27th, during a regular meeting with Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum at the Blue House, President Moon stated, "Isn't it time to carefully consider banning dog meat consumption?"


At this meeting, President Moon received reports on improving the management system for abandoned companion animals, including ▲increasing the registration rate of companion animals ▲promoting neutering projects for outdoor dogs ▲conducting thorough inspections and strengthening management and supervision of entrusted animal protection centers ▲introducing a reporting system for private protection facilities ▲and enhancing the animal protection management system.


President Moon also received a report on COVID-19 response and said, "The key to achieving early phased recovery of daily life is stabilizing the increase in confirmed cases after the Chuseok holiday," adding, "I ask the government, led by the Prime Minister, to devote all efforts to quarantine response."


He also urged efforts to secure living treatment centers and hospital beds to ensure that medical response is not hindered by the surge in confirmed cases.


President Moon expressed gratitude for many citizens voluntarily undergoing COVID-19 testing after the Chuseok holiday and pledged to make every effort to accelerate the second vaccination and encourage participation from the 5.5 million citizens who have not yet made vaccination appointments.
