Boseong-gun Promotes Compliance Inspection for Chemical Fertilizer Usage Standards

[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Cheon-seok] Jeollanam-do Boseong-gun (Governor Kim Cheol-woo) announced that starting from the 27th, it will begin compliance inspections on the chemical fertilizer usage standards under the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment System.

The compliance inspection for the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment System targets farmers who applied for direct payments and their farmland, checking adherence to 17 mandatory compliance items. The Agricultural Technology Center is responsible for inspecting compliance with chemical fertilizer usage standards.

The inspection targets 950 randomly selected plots of farmland from management entities that applied for the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment this year. Four components?soil acidity, organic matter, available phosphorus, and exchangeable potassium?are analyzed, and if two or more items meet the standards, the plot is deemed compliant. Education and management are provided to non-compliant farms.

Non-compliant farms will undergo re-inspection the following year. If non-compliance persists through the third inspection, the plot will be reported to the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, and measures such as reduction of direct payments for the plot will be taken for violations of obligations.

Going forward, farmers must conduct soil testing before crop cultivation to reduce chemical fertilizer overuse and comply with chemical fertilizer usage standards to preserve healthy soil.

An official from the Agricultural Technology Center stated, “With the reform to the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment System, farmers’ obligations have been significantly strengthened. We hope that in addition to complying with chemical fertilizer usage standards, farmers will also properly observe environmental protection duties such as pesticide use, livestock manure composting, and liquid fertilizer spraying.”
