Jeonju City Provides 200,000 Won Transportation Card to Elderly Drivers Who Return Their Licenses

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 27th that it will resume the "2021 Elderly Driver's License Voluntary Surrender Support Project," which had been temporarily suspended.

Since early this year, Jeonju City has been providing a transportation card loaded with 200,000 KRW to elderly people aged 70 or older who voluntarily surrender their driver's licenses. However, due to a surge in applicants, the budget was fully exhausted in May, causing the project to be temporarily suspended.

Accordingly, through the recent review and approval of the supplementary budget proposal by the Jeonju City Council, 128 million KRW in project funds have been secured.

Eligible applicants are elderly residents aged 70 or older (born on or before December 31, 1951) who are registered residents of Jeonju City as of the date of license surrender.

Applicants must bring their driver's license and apply for voluntary surrender at the resident center of their local administrative district. They will receive a transportation card loaded with 200,000 KRW the following month.

If the driver's license is lost, it can be substituted with a driver's career certificate issued by the nearest police station along with an ID card.

If someone has already voluntarily surrendered their driver's license this year but did not receive a transportation card due to budget exhaustion, they can apply for the transportation card at the resident center of their local administrative district by bringing the driver's license cancellation decision issued by the nearest police station and an ID card.

The provided transportation card can be used on any transportation service nationwide that supports transportation cards and at Mybi affiliated stores.
