[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Kwon Soon-woo (ranked 82, Dangjin City Hall) became the first Korean player in 18 years to win a men's professional tennis (ATP) tour singles title.
On the 26th (Korean time), Kwon Soon-woo defeated James Duckworth (ranked 65, Australia) 2-0 (7-6<8-6> 6-3) in 1 hour and 36 minutes in the singles final of the ATP Tour Astana Open (total prize money $480,000) held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
With this victory, Kwon Soon-woo became the first Korean player to win an ATP Tour singles title in 18 years and 8 months since Lee Hyung-taik (45, retired) won the Adidas International in January 2003.
The winner's prize money for this tournament is $47,080 (approximately 55 million KRW). Having earned 250 ranking points for the victory, Kwon Soon-woo is expected to rise to his career-high ranking of 57.
