Governor Kim Young-rok Urges "Preemptive Testing for Contact with Other Regions or Suspicious Symptoms"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, made a special appeal to undergo proactive testing when in contact with other regions or when symptoms are suspected, as the spread of COVID-19 continues after Chuseok.

According to Jeonnam Province on the 26th, due to the recent Chuseok holiday effect, the nationwide daily confirmed cases have exceeded 3,000, and in Jeonnam, the daily average before Chuseok was around 10, which increased to about 20 after Chuseok.

From the 18th to the 25th, 133 confirmed cases occurred in the Jeonnam area.

Excluding 2 cases (2%) of overseas inflow and 16 cases (12%) with unknown infection routes, all others are confirmed cases related to other regions, totaling 115 cases (86%).

Among these, 38 confirmed cases reside in other regions, 33 cases were transmitted to family or acquaintances within the province by confirmed cases from other regions, 26 cases were transmitted to general residents in the province through contact with confirmed cases from other regions, and 18 cases were infected in the province after visiting other regions.

By age group, those in their 20s to 40s who have not yet completed vaccination accounted for 51% of all confirmed cases, a larger proportion compared to those aged 50 and above who have mostly completed vaccination.

Accordingly, Governor Kim made a special appeal to the residents to prevent the spread of local infections on this day.

The main requests are ▲ to undergo diagnostic testing at screening clinics or temporary screening centers even if asymptomatic when visiting other regions or meeting residents from other regions ▲ to cancel gatherings and meetings as much as possible in preparation for the continued spread after the holiday and to make mask-wearing a daily habit anytime and anywhere ▲ with the full return to daily life, workplaces should refrain from group meals such as company dinners and minimize contact by utilizing remote work and non-face-to-face meetings.

He also emphasized strengthening school quarantine monitoring and inspections, refraining from small gatherings and meals in religious facilities on weekends, and encouraging vaccination for the unvaccinated.

Governor Kim said, “Although the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has been exhausting and difficult, we have come this far thanks to the active cooperation of the residents in quarantine,” and added, “To lay the foundation for the precious recovery of daily life, I hope everyone actively participates in proactive testing and vaccination and makes wearing masks anytime and anywhere a daily practice.”
