[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Jae-myung, the ruling party's presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, criticized Gwak Sang-do of the People Power Party on the 26th regarding the controversy over the 5 billion KRW retirement pay of Gwak's son from Hwacheon Daeyu. Gwak claimed, "The person who designed it is Lee Jae-myung." Lee responded, "Are you saying that I gave 5 billion KRW to someone I don't even want to breathe the same air with?"
On the same day, Lee posted on his Facebook, "At this rate, soon people will say that the one who received 5 billion KRW is not my son but Lee Jae-myung's son," and questioned, "If the mayor of Seongnam City had been from the People Power Party, they would have proceeded with private development as planned and pocketed all 550 billion KRW. Are you feeling wronged?"
He continued, "The People Power Party-related figures emerging now are probably just the tip of the iceberg. If it weren't for the People Power Party, Seongnam City would have recovered 100% of the development profits through public development, and speculative forces who invested hundreds of billions expecting private development would have been dismantled," adding, "The People Power Party blocked Seongnam City's public development for five years starting in 2010, and although 550 billion KRW was eventually recovered, since they at least got a chance to participate in the public-private partnership, how significant do you think the People Power Party's role was?"
Lee stated, "The 5 billion KRW is suspected to be part of a bribe paid in return for the Park Geun-hye administration and the People Power Party blocking Seongnam City's public development, similar to the advisory fees paid to former lawmaker Won Yoo-chul," and added, "Many people have been talking about me going to prison, but in my view, Mr. Gwak's luck seems to be running out. I'll share a spell to avoid prison. It was a phrase I posted in the restroom for Seongnam City officials to see: 'Corruption Hell, Integrity Heaven.'"
