[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency announced that they will conduct the "My Information Keeper Campaign" for five weeks from the 27th to October 31st to foster a culture of practicing personal information protection in daily life.
This year's campaign slogan is "Carelessly leaked personal information, follow and protect daily rules." The Personal Information Protection Commission has developed daily rules for protecting personal information in everyday life and will focus on promoting them through posters and card news.
Accordingly, the Personal Information Protection Commission will implement various nationwide participation and practice programs to raise public interest and participation in personal information protection. They will conduct "Find the Leaked Picture," where personal information illegally exposed and distributed online can be reported, verified, and deleted. During the campaign period, the "Safety Thermometer," which visualizes the number of reports received, will show participation status and encourage public involvement.
Additionally, customized self-diagnosis checklists for personal information protection will be provided for students and the general public to support self-assessment of their personal information protection level. A pledge to practice the My Information Keeper protection rules and a certification photo posting event will also be held to raise public awareness of personal information protection.
Personal information protection will continue in the online virtual world of the metaverse. A "My Information Keeper Promotion Hall" will be installed on ZEPETO, an augmented reality (AR) avatar-based metaverse platform with over 200 million users worldwide, to attract participation from the MZ generation.
Furthermore, in collaboration with the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, educational content on personal information protection targeting children and adolescents will be developed and distributed. More than 120 organizations and companies, including central government ministries, local governments, the three major telecom companies, and public institutions, will participate as "My Information Keeper Supporters" to help create an atmosphere for personal information protection.
In addition, the Personal Information Protection Commission will introduce the top 10 daily rules for personal information protection in everyday life, such as online secondhand transactions and COVID-19 quarantine, in the era of contactless and data economy, supporting citizens to practice them on their own.
Meanwhile, on the 30th, the "1st Personal Information Protection Day" commemorative event will be held. Marking the 10th anniversary of the enactment of the Personal Information Protection Act this year, the event will include awards for contributors to personal information protection and a roundtable discussion on past achievements and future development directions.
Park Sanghee, Secretary-General of the Personal Information Protection Commission, said, “Through this campaign, we hope to provide an opportunity to recognize the importance of personal information protection and serve as a catalyst for establishing a culture where citizens protect and manage their personal information themselves.” He added, “Going forward, the Personal Information Protection Commission will continue to lead efforts to raise public awareness and spread a culture of practice in personal information protection in collaboration with related organizations.”
