Up to 45% Discount for Overlapping Selection Contracts
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] SK Telecom announced on the 26th that it will newly implement the ‘0 Hero Discount System’ for active-duty military personnel customers starting October 1st in celebration of Armed Forces Day.
The ‘0 Hero Discount System’ is a program that provides a 20% discount on the plan fee and additional unlimited-level data outside of working hours to military customers using SK Telecom lines.
Subscribers can receive an additional 20% discount on the monthly fee of the major 5G and LTE general plans they are currently using. This discount benefit can be combined with the existing optional contract discount (25%), allowing for a maximum of 45% fee discount.
Benefits are also provided so that military personnel customers can use data without burden. Since the pilot operation of mobile phone use for regular soldiers within military units in April 2019 and the official approval in July 2020, the data usage of military personnel has shown an annual average increase of about 20%.
Considering these usage patterns of military personnel, military customers using plans of 40,000 KRW or more will be provided with an additional 2GB of data daily (usable at up to 3Mbps speed after depletion) available after working hours (weekdays 6 PM to 10 PM, weekends and legal holidays). This means they can use data at an unlimited level within the unit.
Until now, military personnel had to subscribe to the military-exclusive plans ‘0 Plan Hero’ or ‘0 Plan Superhero’ to receive customized benefits, but the newly introduced ‘0 Hero Discount System’ is characterized by expanding the target to customers using major 5G and LTE general plans.
Through this, it is expected that military personnel customers’ fee selection rights will be greatly strengthened as they can receive military-exclusive benefits while maintaining general plans.
The ‘0 Hero Discount System’ can be subscribed to by submitting official documents proving active-duty enlistment such as enlistment notice, enlistment confirmation, or military service certificate at SKT customer centers and agencies, and can be used for 24 months from the enlistment date.
Meanwhile, to celebrate this year’s Armed Forces Day, SK Telecom is also conducting an event giving away five types of skincare products from the men’s cosmetics subscription brand ‘OPENWORK’ to customers who subscribe to ‘0 Plan Hero·Superhero’ or the ‘0 Hero Discount System’.
The event can be applied for through the SK Telecom ‘0 Handong’ app from October 1st to 10th, and a total of 35,00 military personnel (350 per day on a first-come, first-served basis) will receive gifts worth a total of 160 million KRW.
Han Myung-jin, head of SK Telecom’s Marketing Group, said, “Considering the significant improvement in the welfare level of military personnel after using mobile phones within military units, we will continue to strengthen SK Telecom’s military-exclusive benefit program ‘0 Hero’ so that MZ generation soldiers can use smartphones without burden.”
