20s Escaping While Awaiting Prison Admission in Uijeongbu... Prosecution and Police Pursuit (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On the 25th, a man in his 20s who was awaiting incarceration at a prison in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, escaped, prompting authorities to launch a pursuit.

According to authorities, around 3:45 PM near Uijeongbu Prison, a man in his 20s identified as Mr. A fled while handcuffed. He reportedly pushed away investigators and ran off during the process of undergoing a COVID-19 test prior to incarceration.

Previously, Mr. A was scheduled to stand trial at the Uijeongbu District Court on charges including theft but failed to appear, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued. The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul apprehended Mr. A on a separate case related to the trial, confirmed the existing warrant, and handed him over to the prosecution in front of Uijeongbu Prison.

The prosecution and police have deployed approximately 150 personnel to track Mr. A’s escape route and are actively searching for his whereabouts.
