Brazen Teenagers Committing Car Break-Ins in Gangnam-gu Apartment Parking Lot While on Probation

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Teenagers under probation were caught by the police while committing so-called car break-ins.

On the 25th, according to the police, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul arrested a teenager, A, on charges of special theft. The police have also identified the identity of the teenage accomplice B, who fled, and plan to summon him for investigation.

They are accused of stealing valuables by pulling on the doors of cars parked in an apartment parking lot in Gangnam-gu around 2:10 p.m. on the 18th, and then entering cars with unlocked doors. It is reported that about three vehicles parked at the time were victimized. They were caught by an apartment security guard while searching for items to steal inside the cars. The security guard caught A and handed him over to the police, but B escaped.

Both are identified as probation subjects. It is reported that B, who fled, has a prior record of being arrested for robbing a jewelry store in another area.

Probation, corresponding to types 4 and 5 under juvenile protection measures, is a disposition that allows juveniles found guilty to live in society instead of being detained in correctional facilities, but requires them to follow the guidance and supervision of a probation officer for a certain period. It is imposed when there is a high likelihood of reoffending.
