If You Want to Raise a Child Who Reads, Start with Bookstart
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jeonnam Gwangyang Hope Library announced that starting from October, it will operate the 'Bookstart Book Play Program' for pregnant women and infants residing in Gwangyang City.
The 'Bookstart Book Play' class is a program that helps children develop their five senses and form reading habits by sharing happy interactions between parents and children through various physical play and creative expression activities related to books.
The program offers three courses: 'Kongdak Kongdak Picture Book Prenatal Education' for pregnant women, 'Ajang Ajang Book Playground' for infants aged 12 to 24 months, and 'Dreaming Book Playground' for toddlers aged 25 to 48 months. All classes are held 8 times each until November.
Among them, the prenatal education class for expectant parents and pregnant women is a newly introduced program this year, attracting attention with diverse content such as how to choose good picture books, picture book parenting methods according to the baby's developmental stages, and making teaching aids for book play.
Kim Hyun-sook, team leader of Hope Library, said, "Reading during infancy has a positive influence on the relationship between parents and children and is essential for the child's emotional development," adding, "It is a great opportunity for children to become familiar with books, so please do not miss it."
