Gwangju Dong-gu Conducts Joint Public-Private Inspection of Businesses Emitting Environmental Pollutants

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 24th that it will conduct a joint public-private inspection of businesses emitting environmental pollutants over two days from the 27th to the 28th.

Dong-gu plans to form two inspection teams consisting of responsible public officials and private environmental organizations to prioritize inspections of businesses that continuously cause complaints and those with multiple complaints.

This special inspection will focus on ▲ installation and proper operation of facilities to suppress dust emissions ▲ proper operation of environmentally vulnerable areas and businesses emitting environmental pollutants ▲ and compliance with other environmental laws.

Through this inspection, Dong-gu aims to induce reduction of odors and fine dust by cracking down on dust from construction sites, environmentally vulnerable areas, and businesses emitting environmental pollutants, along with strengthened surveillance activities.

In the future, Dong-gu plans to hire private environmental monitors intensively during seasons with high fine dust levels to continuously prevent and monitor illegal fine dust emissions.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “We plan to induce voluntary improvements through on-site guidance for businesses emitting environmental pollutants and take strong measures according to relevant laws in case of violations,” adding, “We will create a clean environment including air quality so that residents can live healthier and more comfortably.”
