[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A citizens' rally to successfully host the 2030 Busan World Expo will be held on the 27th at 3 p.m. at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center.
Busan City is promoting the 'World Expo' as its largest priority project alongside the construction of Gadeok New Airport.
Through a 1 million signature campaign and citizens' rallies urging national project designation, it was confirmed as a national project in 2019, and in 2020, the government officially expressed its intention to host.
Finally, in June, the government and Busan City officially submitted the hosting application.
This event was organized to rekindle public interest and support, marking the point when Mayor Park Hyung-joon of Busan officially submitted the 2030 World Expo hosting application to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in June.
Attendees include Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Busan City Council Chairman Shin Sang-hae, Busan Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun, representatives from local business and civic organizations, as well as university student supporters who will directly see, hear, and experience the 2030 Busan World Expo.
The event will feature a video showcasing the passion and efforts for hosting, pledges from the 2030 generation, a congratulatory video performance by the Busan City Boys and Girls Choir, and a success performance for the hosting bid.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, "The World Expo will not just be a dream for Busan but a reality, and from now on, the real beginning starts," adding, "We will prepare firmly together with the citizens of Busan."
Busan City will submit the final hosting plan in the first half of next year. In the second half, the Bureau International des Expositions will conduct on-site inspections of candidate cities, and the host city will be finally selected by a vote of 169 member countries in 2023.
