Daejeon City to Host Online 'Robot Convergence Festival' from 24th to 26th

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 24th that it will hold the "10th Robot Convergence Festival" online from the 24th to the 26th of this month.

The Robot Convergence Festival has been held annually since 2012 as an industry-academia-research event, serving as a stepping stone for local companies to enter the robot market through nationwide robot competitions.

This year, considering the spread of COVID-19, the competition will be held online. A total of 8 participating organizations will compete in 19 fields and 38 categories.

The Robot Convergence Festival will be held concurrently with ▲ the "2021 International Robot Youth Competition," ▲ Chungnam National University’s "Intelligent Creative Robot Competition," ▲ Mokwon University’s "Creative Contents Maker Competition," ▲ Seoul National University of Science and Technology’s "2021 SRC Robot Competition," and ▲ the Korea Robot Sports Association’s "23rd International Robot Olympiad" Korean National Preliminary.

Additionally, ▲ Saeon Co., Ltd.’s "Autonomous Vehicle AI Mission Challenge," ▲ M-Tec Co., Ltd.’s "Intelligent Creative Robot Contest," and ▲ Acrosspace’s "PolygonAid AI Drone Competition," representing Daejeon’s leading robot companies, are expected to participate in the event.

The competition will proceed in two ways: participants receive missions online and submit videos of mission completion for judging, or they remotely control robots in the competition venue by connecting their mobile phones from home, performing missions while being judged, with the process broadcast live on YouTube.

Participants of all ages can join according to the competition categories, including elementary, middle and high school, and general divisions. Application periods and methods for each competition can be found on the Robot Convergence Festival website.

Myeong No-chung, Director of the Science and Industry Bureau of Daejeon City, said, "We will strive to conduct a new paradigm of robot competitions suitable for the post-COVID-19 era," adding, "Through the robot competition, we aim to revitalize local robot companies affected by COVID-19 and provide participating students with untact robot education and experience opportunities."
