Maeil Dairies Receives Minister of Environment Award for Contributions to Environmental Conservation

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Maeil Dairies announced on the 24th that it received the Minister of Environment Award in recognition of its contribution to the formation of a resource-circulating society from the Ministry of Environment.

On the 6th, Maeil Dairies was selected as an excellent business operator for packaging and single-use product reduction and recycling promotion at the ‘2021 Packaging and Single-Use Product Reduction Excellent Business Operator Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Environment to commemorate the 13th 'Resource Circulation Day,' and received the Minister of Environment Award.

The Ministry of Environment has designated September 6th every year as 'Resource Circulation Day' since 2009 to widely promote the awareness that 'waste is also a valuable resource' and to strengthen the will to save resources and practice resource circulation in daily life.

In line with the Ministry of Environment’s policies, Maeil Dairies voluntarily participated in the Packaging Ban Law consultative body to proactively reduce packaging materials and signed a promotional agreement for separate collection of transparent PET bottles. In addition, it has established an eco-friendly mid- to long-term strategy, making multifaceted efforts to promote recyclability, including lightweighting containers, removing straws attached to products, minimizing planning packs, reducing plastic usage through the development of alternative materials to plastic, unifying materials, and improving ease of separate collection.

In May, Maeil Dairies, SK General Chemical, Tetra Pak Korea, and Jushin Trading signed a business agreement as the first in Korea to recycle polyethylene and aluminum materials from aseptic packs to solve the plastic waste problem and improve the waste resource circulation system.

A Maeil Dairies official stated, “Maeil Dairies will continue to contribute to a sustainable environment through active efforts such as reducing carbon emissions within production facilities, changing packaging materials, and fostering eco-friendly products with consideration for the environment.”
