Hankook Tire's 'HPS-Cell' Wins IDEA 2021 Design Award

Tire-Based Platform ‘HPS-Cell’ Sweeps Top 3 Global Design Awards

Hankook Tire's 'HPS-Cell' Wins IDEA 2021 Design Award Hankook Tire HPS (Hankook Platform System)-Cell

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hankook Tire announced on the 24th that its tire-based platform HPS (Hankook Platform System)-Cell won the 'Finalist' award in the Automotive and Transportation category at the global design award 'IDEA 2021.'

HPS-Cell was born through Hankook Tire's Design Innovation 2020 project. Hankook Tire's Design Innovation project is a research and development initiative conducted every two years to present the company's vision for future driving and the innovative mobility industry.

For the Design Innovation 2020 project, under the theme 'Urban Reshaping,' it envisioned a future environment enhanced with cutting-edge technologies such as eco-friendliness, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence (AI), and automated infrastructure, where mobility is restructured not just as a means of transportation but as a living space that transforms cities.

The tire equipped on the 'HPS-Cell' is an Airless tire with a Unit-cell structured lattice, utilizing sensor technology to monitor the tire tread and road surface conditions in real time to respond to hazards. Through variable wheels and optimized infrastructure, it is also possible to replace the tread pattern with the optimal one suited to the road surface.

Meanwhile, HPS-Cell has won awards at all three of the world's major design awards: the 'Red Dot' award in the Mobility and Transportation category at Germany's 'Red Dot Award 2021' in July, the 'Winner' award in the Professional Concept category at Germany's 'iF Design Award 2021' in April, and now the 'IDEA 2021.'
