10th Anniversary Special Performance, Showcase, Pitching, Networking, and More
Examining the Latest Music Distribution Trends and Future at the Conference
The largest global music market in Asia is opening its doors. It is the Seoul International Music Fair (MU:CON), hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency. It will be held online from the 30th of this month to the 2nd of next month. Under the theme "A DECADE OF K-POP AND THE FUTURE AHEAD," it aims to build networks within the domestic and international music industries to promote overseas expansion. Moving away from the B2B method of introducing domestic musicians to overseas buyers, it will increase opportunities for consumer engagement through a 10th-anniversary special performance, conferences, pitching sessions, networking, showcases, and music tech company presentations (IR pitching).
The 10th-anniversary special performance, "MU:CON X The Celebration," will take place on the afternoon of the 30th. Artists such as Younha, NCT Dream, Pentagon, rock band Mongni, Soran, fusion gugak band Jambinai, Brave Girls, Wonho, and Samuel Seo will take the stage. An official stated, "A second lineup will be announced additionally." The "MU:CON Showcase" will be held from the 30th to the 2nd of next month. Forty-two teams including Jamie, Kim Feel, Saesoyon, BIBI, An Yaeun, KATIE, Gaho, Alexa, T1419, Hot Issue, Kingdom, and DKB will participate. Outstanding musicians will receive support to participate in "K-Music Week" and benefits for global promotion. The event can be viewed on the YouTube channel "Coca Music" as well as SBS MTV, SBS FiL, and MTV ASIA.
The conference to review trends and the future of the music industry will be held on the 1st and 2nd of next month. It will examine the latest music distribution trends and share new technologies and information related to music. Speakers include Anita Elberse, a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School who analyzed BTS's success, and Kim Yeonjeong, Twitter's Global K-pop & Content Partnership General Manager. They will discuss lessons from the rise of global superstars and how K-pop is expanding beyond the boundaries of the cultural industry to the world. Billboard columnist Jeff Benjamin will also join, interviewing Jenna Andrews, who participated in the vocal production of BTS's "Dynamite" and the songwriting of "Butter" and "Permission to Dance."
