[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] It was belatedly revealed that the Admissions Fairness Management Committee of Pusan National University, which incorrectly announced the university grades of the daughter of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, admitted the ‘error’ and that the chairman of the committee resigned.

According to Pusan National University on the 23rd, the chairman of the committee informed the university headquarters on the 7th, “An error occurred in the process of transferring the results of the review and analysis of various admission-related documents to the internal investigation report,” and expressed his intention to “take responsibility for the situation and resign.”

Chae Jung-in, president of Pusan National University, immediately accepted the resignation.

The committee submitted the results of a four-month investigation to the university headquarters on the 19th of last month, stating, “Cho’s previous university grades ranked 3rd among the 30 candidates who passed the first stage of the medical school admission process.”

Pusan National University announced the cancellation of Cho’s medical school admission on the 24th of last month, directly citing the committee’s report.

The first trial judgment of former Dongyang University professor Jung Kyung-shim, wife of former Minister Cho, recorded that Cho’s university grades were an average score of 14.73 points and a converted score of 14.02 out of 100, ranking 24th among the 30 candidates who passed the first stage.

After the judgment, Pusan National University acknowledged that Cho’s university grades were indeed 24th, not 3rd.

A Pusan National University official admitted, “Since the committee mainly analyzed based on the second trial judgment of former professor Jung, it seems they failed to verify that Cho’s university grades were specified as 24th in the first trial judgment,” and “they did not discover the error in the committee’s report.”

The committee is a permanent organization related to admissions within Pusan National University, composed of 25 members including the chairman, vice chairman, internal members, and external members.

In May, the then chairman of the committee resigned for personal reasons, and one of the internal members was newly appointed as chairman without replacement, but the successor chairman also resigned due to this incident.
