13 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Gwangju... Tension Over Chuseok 'Mass Movement' Impact

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 23rd, 13 people in the Gwangju area were confirmed positive for COVID-19.


Gwangju Metropolitan City announced the 'COVID-19 Occurrence Status' on the same day.


Among them, a total of 9 cases were related to previously confirmed patients, and all three friends in their 20s of the index patient number 4732, who recently visited a room soju bar in Seo-gu, 4762, 4770, and 4771, were infected.


Regarding tests related to foreigners in Gwangsan-gu, 2 additional cases, 4772 and 4773, occurred, bringing the cumulative total to 276.


Regarding the bathhouse in Dong-gu, 1 case, 4766, occurred, increasing the total to 8.


Case number 4769 is currently under investigation for the infection route.


The cumulative confirmed cases this month totaled 707, with infections spreading rapidly mainly among young people, including 230 in their 20s and 150 in their 30s.


A Gwangju city official expressed concern during the COVID-19 briefing, stating, "During the Chuseok holiday, the population in the metropolitan area was larger than that in non-metropolitan areas, so the impact may appear from next week."


He added, "Considering this situation, those who visited other metropolitan areas or multi-use facilities are encouraged to get preemptive testing even if they do not have any special symptoms."
