[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk (Mayor Lee Hwan-joo) is leading efforts to enhance farm competitiveness and increase income through a facility horticulture modernization project aimed at fostering a high-quality horticultural industry.
The city announced on the 23rd that it is promoting a large-scale modernization of facility horticulture by investing 2.5 billion KRW in a total of 13 projects, including unmanned pest control, hydroponic cultivation facilities, irrigation and fertilization facilities, and rail facilities, to develop region-specific specialty crops such as strawberries, lettuce, and paprika that leverage local characteristics to boost agricultural competitiveness.
To start next year’s support projects early, the city conducted a detailed demand survey by crop last month, and from November, it will accept project applications from farms wishing to participate, reviewing project feasibility and assigning priorities based on selection criteria.
Additionally, in January next year, the city plans to finalize the list of beneficiaries through a recipient selection committee.
Next year, the city will investigate detailed project unit prices such as greenhouse pipes due to the increase in facility house material costs, and after the winter season, it will proceed swiftly to start the projects.
Mayor Lee Hwan-joo said, “The horticultural industry, which reflects regional characteristics, is a pivotal industry, and we are accelerating the modernization of facility horticulture. We plan to promote this to greatly contribute to agricultural and rural development and increase farm income through diversification of distribution channels such as agricultural product production and overseas exports, as well as improvement of the agricultural environment.”
