Everyday Science 'Theme Travel'... Daejeon City Operates 'Science Tour'

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A tourism program themed around everyday science will be operated to allow travel in Daejeon.

Daejeon City announced on the 24th that it will prepare and operate the themed integrated science tourism system program called ‘Daejeon Science Tour’.

The Daejeon Science Tour is being promoted following its selection in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Rew-New Science Village Creation Project’ contest. The core of the project is to enable everyday science experience activities by integrating and linking Daejeon’s scientific and cultural infrastructure into a regional tourism platform.

This program integrates and links visits to research institutes within the Daedeok Innopolis in Daejeon, open labs in government-funded research institutions, the National Science Museum, the Daejeon brand promotion center inside Shinsegae Art & Science, Nexperium exploration, science expert lectures, and career mentoring experiences.

It operates as day-trip or overnight (1 night 2 days) programs under three themes: ‘Science Master Tip Tour,’ ‘SF Cinema Tip Tour,’ and ‘Science Romance Tip Tour.’

First, the ‘Science Master Tip Tour’ consists of lectures and career mentoring by science experts from KAIST and the University of Science and Technology (UST), as well as visits to research institutes and science experience centers.

Also, the ‘SF Cinema Tip Tour’ is a program where participants discover the scientific principles hidden in SF movies and learn and experience scientific principles in space, metaverse, robots, life, bio, and green energy. The ‘Science Romance Tip Tour’ offers an augmented reality experience of Daejeon, a journey back in time to feel the New-tro sensibility throughout the region, and a chance to appreciate the aspects of the science city Daejeon.

The Daejeon Science Tour can be reserved and participated in through the website starting from the 27th.

Myeong No-chung, Director of the Science Industry Bureau of the city, said, “The Daejeon Science Tour is operated as a themed program that allows travelers to enjoy science more easily and enjoyably. In particular, the lectures and mentoring by scientists will be practical programs for youth, who are the main agents in basic science research and nurturing scientific talent, which are key future tasks.”
