[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Nambu Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chief Lee Jeong-ja) will operate the ‘Hiking Safety Keeper’ around Jeoseoksan Mountain until next month to ensure the safety of hikers and prevent forest fires during the peak autumn hiking season.

The ‘Hiking Safety Keeper’ is staffed by firefighters and volunteer fire brigade members on weekends and public holidays to prevent mountain safety accidents in advance, and to minimize damage by securing the safety of hikers through prompt rescue and first aid in case of accidents.

The main activities include ▲maintenance of simple rescue first aid kits ▲patrolling around hiking trails ▲guidance for safe hiking ▲promotion of forest fire prevention ▲inspection of safety facilities and mountain location signboards.

Ko Jung-hyun, head of the 119 Disaster Response Team at Nambu Fire Station, urged hikers to follow hiking safety rules and to act calmly in case of an accident, confirm their mountain location, and promptly report to 119.
