Jeonju City to Build Dedicated Curling Arena at Hwasan Gymnasium

Curling Rink with 5 Sheets and 200-Seat Spectator Stands... Scheduled for Completion by December 2023

Jeonju City to Build Dedicated Curling Arena at Hwasan Gymnasium

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 23rd that it plans to build a dedicated curling arena at Jeonju Hwasan Gymnasium in Junghwasan-dong by December 2023, with a total project cost of 12 billion KRW, including 3 billion KRW in national funding.

Currently, there are 9 teams and about 80 curling players active in Jeonbuk Province, but since there is no dedicated curling arena in the province, they have been using nearby local government arenas by paying about 300 million KRW annually in rental fees.

Accordingly, Jeonju City decided to create a dedicated curling arena at Hwasan Gymnasium, which is equipped with parking facilities and located near lodging and restaurants, and completed the local finance investment review and architectural planning service last year.

Jeonju City plans to start a design competition next month, proceed through various procedures, begin construction around June next year, and complete the construction by 2023.

The Jeonju City dedicated curling arena will be built with a total floor area of about 2,400㎡, featuring 5 curling sheets and 200 spectator seats.

Jeonju City expects that the dedicated curling arena will provide an optimal training environment for players who had to travel long distances for training and serve as an opportunity to discover promising curling talents.

In addition, by attracting curling competitions, it is expected to foster the sports industry and reduce rental fees that were previously spent in other regions.
