Jeonnam Police Secure Peaceful Public Safety During Chuseok Holiday

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Police Agency announced on the 23rd that crime reports during the Chuseok holiday decreased by 3.3% compared to last year, maintaining a peaceful public safety condition without major incidents or accidents.

To prevent violent crimes infringing on citizens' livelihoods such as robbery, theft, and burglary before and after the Chuseok holiday and to ensure peaceful public safety for residents, the period from the 13th to the 22nd was designated as the "Chuseok Holiday Special Public Safety Activity" period, during which police resources were concentrated. This appears to be the result of those efforts.

The Jeonnam Police Agency conducted preemptive inspections of crime-vulnerable factors and carried out preventive activities together with residents to create a safe holiday atmosphere free from crime.

In particular, centered on the Crime Prevention Diagnosis Team (CPO), 4,180 vulnerable locations such as small financial institutions and convenience stores were inspected and reinforced. At the same time, crime prevention guidelines were promoted 3,795 times, and local police officers (11,735), police riot squads (210), and detectives (840) were intensively deployed to strengthen visible patrols in crime-prone areas and prevent crimes.

Additionally, crime prevention and reporting guidelines were promoted to owners of businesses handling large amounts of cash, such as gold shops, to strengthen their own security capabilities. A total of 19 major crime simulation exercises (FTX) were also conducted to prepare for violent crime occurrences.

Since an increase in domestic violence reports was expected during the holiday period, careful management was carried out, including monitoring 689 households with a risk of recurrence before the holiday. As a result, domestic violence reports decreased by 14.7% compared to the previous year.

In the traffic sector, through traffic management in congested areas and traffic safety activities focused on accident-prone zones, traffic accidents decreased by 42 cases, or 31.6%, compared to the previous year (an average of 3.8 cases per day, down 14.3%).

Traffic police officers (634) were proactively deployed to congested areas such as park cemeteries and major intersections, and a helicopter (1 unit) was utilized for three-dimensional traffic management and real-time traffic information provision. Safety driving promotion activities, including prevention of drowsy driving and mandatory seatbelt use in all seats, were also conducted to secure smooth traffic flow and alleviate public inconvenience.

The Jeonnam Police Agency stated, "Through preventive police activities, we will proactively diagnose and resolve anxiety factors around daily life to create an environment where residents can feel safe from various crimes and accidents."
