[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hana Financial Group announced on the 23rd that it will hold the 'Hana Financial Group Championship' (hosted by KLPGA) for four days starting from the 30th at Adonis Country Club in Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Held with the largest prize money scale in domestic tournaments, totaling 1.5 billion KRW, this 'Hana Financial Group Championship' will be an eco-friendly golf tournament showcasing various recycled and eco-friendly products and conducting fundraising events to practice ESG (Environment, Social, Governance).
First, various eco-friendly products made from recycled masks will be displayed at the tournament venue. In collaboration with artist Kim Haneul, known for creating recycled products using masks, upcycled plastic flowerpots will be made using leftover mask fabric and defective masks discarded from factories.
Additionally, upcycled plastic flowerpots will be placed throughout the tournament venue, including the players' lounge and media center, so that all participating players and tournament officials can join in practicing upcycling ESG. The photo wall created for the golf tournament will be replaced with an eco-wall using living plants. After the tournament ends, the plants from the eco-wall will be transplanted into upcycled flowerpots and donated as part of ESG activities.
Moreover, eco-friendly paper pack bottled water made from paper and sugarcane produced by social innovation companies founded through Hana Financial Group’s social innovation entrepreneur training program, the ‘Hana Social Venture Academy,’ will be provided as the official bottled water of the tournament. Major facilities such as advertising boards and fences used in the tournament will be recycled for the 'Hana Bank Invitational' tournament to be held from the 21st of next month.
An ESG matching donation event will also be held with the participating players and Hana Financial Group sharing the same intention. First, the participating players will donate 1% of their total prize money, and Hana Financial Group will donate the same amount through a matching grant, raising a total donation fund of 30 million KRW.
Furthermore, additional donations from Hana Financial Group will be accumulated based on the players' birdie and eagle records during the tournament period, and donations will also be raised through ESG golf quiz games featuring key players on Hana Financial Group’s official YouTube channel ‘HanaTV.’ The accumulated donation funds will be donated to vulnerable elderly living alone and children in the Pocheon area where the tournament is held.
The 'Hana Financial Group Championship,' a KLPGA regular tour event, is one of the 'Ladies Asian Tour (LAT)' series tournaments organized by the 'Asia Golf Leaders Forum (AGLF),' a corporation officially launched in January last year to promote the development and advancement of Asian women's golf. The 'Hana Financial Group Championship' is the second LAT series tournament held this year following the 'DB Group 35th Korea Women's Open' held in June, and it will be the first international golf tournament since the COVID-19 pandemic to feature overseas players, based on a thorough quarantine system.
