Gyeonggi-do Drives Small and Micro Farmers to Promote Local Food Consumption Local Food Direct Store [Yeoju-si]

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province is driving the income of small and medium-sized farms in the province through the promotion of local food consumption.


According to the province on the 23rd, it plans to invest 12.3 billion KRW this year to revitalize local food.


With professional consultants providing on-site farm and direct store management consulting, the province aims to promote both quantitative and qualitative growth of local food.


By next year, the number of local food direct stores and complex cultural centers in the province will be increased to 80, and production facilities such as vinyl greenhouses and cold storage will be supported.


Currently, local food farm education and producer-consumer exchange projects are being promoted, and more than 4,000 pesticide residue tests are conducted annually.


Meanwhile, local food sales in the province in the first half of this year were recorded at 82.2 billion KRW, a 4.7% increase from 78.5 billion KRW during the same period last year.


The number of participating farms increased by 4.6% to 16,028 farms from 15,316 farms the previous year.


By item, agricultural products accounted for 41.776 billion KRW (51%), livestock products 20.66 billion KRW (25%), processed products 14.446 billion KRW (18%), and others 5.324 billion KRW (6%).


Until October 27, discount events, local food giveaways based on purchase amounts, and healthy agricultural product experiences will be held at 10 local food direct stores in the province.


The province expects to achieve approximately 196 billion KRW in local food sales this year.
