[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eunbyeol] A man in his 50s and his elderly mother were found dead in an apartment in Nowon-gu, Seoul, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
The Nowon Police Station in Seoul announced that at 7:19 a.m. on the 22nd, they responded to a report from a man in his 50s who said, "A murder has occurred," and discovered the bodies of the reporter and his mother in her 80s in the apartment's flower bed and inside the home.
This apartment was the home where the elderly mother lived alone. Based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police are identifying the time when the son visited his mother's house during the Chuseok holiday period. The police are focusing on the possibility that the son killed his mother and then took his own life. It was reported that the mother usually had difficulty moving and used a wheelchair.
The police are currently investigating the son's mobile phone, the bereaved family, and nearby neighbors to determine the motive for the crime.
