26 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Gwangju Area

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] On the last day of the Chuseok holiday, the 22nd, 26 people in the Gwangju area were infected with COVID-19.


According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on that day, as of 2 p.m., 26 people (local infections) were confirmed positive and classified as cases 4726 to 4751.


Three people, cases 4737, 4740, and 4746, related to testing of foreigners in Gwangsan-gu were infected, and among them, one person was confirmed positive while in isolation.


One additional infection (case 4741) related to manufacturing in Gwangsan-gu, continuing for four days, was confirmed during isolation.


Overnight, through family contact, one middle school student and two elementary school students in Buk-gu were confirmed positive. Currently, the quarantine authorities are conducting comprehensive testing of 308 people at the two schools and plan to separate contacts through in-depth epidemiological investigations in the future.


There were four cases related to a bathhouse in Dong-gu, eight related to previously confirmed cases, two related to confirmed cases from other cities/provinces, and eight under investigation due to symptomatic testing.


During the holiday period from the 18th to the 22nd, 163 confirmed cases occurred, among which infections among foreigners were the highest at 57 cases (35%).


Following that were family infections with 42 cases (26%), acquaintance infections with 36 cases (22%), workplace infections with 34 cases (21%), 28 cases (17%) under investigation for infection routes, and 22 cases (14%) related to other cities/provinces.


Looking at recent occurrences by type, testing-related cases in Gwangsan-gu numbered 273, the highest recorded; 106 cases related to workplaces employing foreigners; 6 cases related to entertainment establishments in Seo-gu; 14 cases related to acquaintance gatherings in Buk-gu; 35 cases related to an insurance company in Seo-gu; 19 cases related to family gatherings in Seo-gu; and 41 cases related to a middle school in Buk-gu.
