Magnitude 5.6 Earthquake Near Melbourne, Australia

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] On the morning of the 22nd (local time), a magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred near Melbourne, Australia, according to major foreign news agencies.


According to AFP and DPA, the epicenter was observed near Mansfield, about 200 km northeast of Melbourne, with a focal depth of 10 km.


The earthquake was also detected in downtown Melbourne, hundreds of kilometers away. However, no building damage from the earthquake has been reported.


Meanwhile, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the earthquake magnitude as 5.6. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported it as 5.8.
