President Moon: "Korean Companies Hope to Enter Vietnam's Bio and Pharmaceutical Markets"

Korea-Vietnam Summit "Over 1 Million COVID-19 Vaccine Doses to Be Provided to Vietnam by October"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 21st (local time), President Moon Jae-in, during a summit meeting with Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of Vietnam, held in New York, USA, stated, "Korean companies hope to enter the Vietnamese market in the fields of bio-pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, and finance, and I ask for continuous interest and support."


President Moon said, "Marking the 6th anniversary of the Korea-Vietnam FTA coming into effect, the economic cooperation between the two countries is becoming closer, and I believe it is possible to achieve the 2023 trade volume target of 100 billion dollars."


President Moon also stated, "Since the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak, the two countries have overcome the crisis together by sharing quarantine supplies, and Korea intends to support Vietnam with more than one million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by October."

Park Kyung-mi, spokesperson for the Blue House, explained, "President Moon discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, mutual cooperation to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, and major regional and international issues," adding, "President Nguyen Xuan Phuc was serving as Prime Minister until recently and was elected President in April this year, making this the first direct communication between the two leaders."


Spokesperson Park said, "President Moon also mentioned the establishment of a Korea-Vietnam health and vaccine partnership combining Vietnam's potential with Korea's vaccine production technology and capabilities, the project to build a disease prevention and control system to strengthen Vietnam's disease response capacity, and the support and cooperation of Vietnamese authorities for phase 3 clinical trials of vaccines being prepared by Korean companies in Vietnam."


Meanwhile, President Moon expressed, "I appreciate Vietnam's selection of the Korean language as the first foreign language, and interest in Vietnamese language and culture is increasing in Korea as well. I hope mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries will be further enhanced through language and culture."

Additionally, President Moon conveyed, "I am grateful for Vietnam's unwavering support for our government's efforts toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and lasting peace." He added, "I ask for Vietnam's continued interest and constructive role as a Security Council member and Korea-ASEAN dialogue coordinator to resume dialogue with North Korea."


President Phuc expressed, "I look forward to a comprehensive partnership and cooperation based on mutual trust between Korea and Vietnam," citing cooperation in bio, medical, advanced technology, defense, and security sectors as examples. President Phuc suggested, "Vietnam has much to learn from Korea in pandemic management and socio-economic recovery," and proposed advancing the current 'strategic partnership' to the next level.


President Phuc mentioned, "Coach Park Hang-seo is leading the Vietnamese football team well, and the next matches in the World Cup qualifiers are against Australia and China." President Moon responded, "I congratulate Vietnam on their World Cup success and wish them continued success."


Spokesperson Park said, "President Moon said, 'I often meet President Phuc and we are like friends,' and expressed hope to continue close consultations in the future, concluding the summit."
