[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver announced that it has obtained electronic signature certification operator certification from the Ministry of Science and ICT and plans to further expand its certification business. Although Naver entered the certification business later than competitors like Kakao, its growth momentum is strong.
According to Naver on the 22nd, the Naver Certificate, which started service last March, has surpassed 18 million users (as of September). It grew sixfold in eight months from 3 million users in January.
With the electronic signature certification operator certification this time, the Naver Certificate is expected to be utilized in a wider range of public institutions and private sector services, including as an integrated authentication method for MyData.
The electronic signature certification operator system is being reviewed for the first time this year. Following the revision of the Electronic Signature Act, the government-designated public certificates were abolished, allowing institutions to use private certificates, and this system was introduced to enhance service stability and reliability.
Naver selected the Financial Security Institute as the evaluation agency and conducted assessments on a total of 189 items, receiving high scores for the stability and security of its electronic signature certification service.
The number of partners where the Naver Certificate can be used is 112, and including partners with ongoing business agreements and development, the total reaches 160, with a goal of achieving 200 by the end of this year.
A Naver official said, "After obtaining the electronic signature certification operator certification, we will do our best to secure more applications based on Naver’s advanced security and service know-how," adding, "We will strive to build an ecosystem where users can conveniently and safely use certification services in the future."
