[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] An abandoned white dog whose mouth was tightly bound with an industrial rubber band has shared an update on its recovery.

The animal welfare organization Beagle Rescue Network (Bigu Network), which rescued the white dog, posted on the 18th a video showing the dog eating food on its own, along with the message, "Hwangje is bravely eating well and doing fine."

'Hwangje' is the name given by the Bigu Network, hoping the dog would overcome its difficult situation.

The Bigu Network stated, "Hwangje’s mouth is swollen and seems painful, so sometimes he drools food around his jaw, but he is chewing and swallowing by himself."

They added, "The skin around Hwangje’s mouth, where the tape was wrapped, has become necrotic. For more precise examination and treatment, he is scheduled to visit a university hospital after the Chuseok holiday."

They also said, "Due to prolonged dehydration, his kidney function is severely damaged and has not yet recovered, but since he is eating well, we hope he will gradually improve."

Earlier, on the 12th, Hwangje was found near the Geumji intersection in Sangjeo-myeon, Jinan-gun, Jeonbuk, with his mouth tightly bound by an industrial rubber band. The person who first found Hwangje reported it to 119 and informed the Bigu Network, leading to an emergency rescue.

Hwangje was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was diagnosed with necrosis inside his mouth due to being tied up, requiring four weeks of hospitalization and treatment. At the time of discovery, Hwangje was so emaciated that his bones were visible, having been unable to drink water or eat food.

On the 18th, Beagle Rescue Network posted a card news stating that they are receiving tips related to Hwangje.

However, the person who tied and abandoned Hwangje has not yet been identified. The Bigu Network stated, "The police investigation into the abuser is ongoing, and we will do our best to find the abuser and ensure proper punishment is carried out," emphasizing, "We ask for continued public interest and support."

Meanwhile, many netizens who learned about Hwangje’s condition expressed relief, saying, "It’s a relief that he was safely rescued and is recovering," and "I hope he eats well, stays strong, and becomes healthy."

They also urged for investigation into the abuser. One netizen insisted, "The culprit should be caught quickly, punished, and their identity publicly disclosed." Another pointed out, "There is a need for legislation to impose strict penalties on animal abusers."
