Jeju Coast Guard Holds Chuseok Ceremony While Protecting Territorial Waters near Ieodo Sea


[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] On the morning of the Chuseok holiday on the 21st, maritime police officers and conscripted policemen who could not visit their hometowns during the Chuseok period held a memorial ceremony on board the Jeju Coast Guard vessel 3002, which was on patrol in the waters near Ieodo.


According to the Jeju Coast Guard on the 21st, the large patrol vessel 3002 of the Jeju Coast Guard, which is on duty in the waters around Ieodo about 197 kilometers from Jeju Port to protect our territorial waters from Chinese fishing boats and to prevent safety accidents of navigating and fishing vessels and to secure maritime order, held a memorial ceremony on board with maritime police officers and conscripted policemen, consoling their regret for not being able to visit their hometowns.


During the Chuseok holiday, the Jeju Coast Guard vessel 3002 on patrol in the waters near Ieodo performs various duties such as rescue activities in case of maritime accidents, emergency patient transport, maintaining order of domestic fishing operations, and blocking illegal fishing by foreign vessels. Over the past three years, it has rescued 120 people and 11 distressed vessels in maritime accidents and seized 8 illegal foreign fishing vessels, making it a key patrol vessel of the Jeju Coast Guard dedicated to securing maritime safety and protecting maritime sovereignty.


Meanwhile, Captain Kim Hong-yoon of the Jeju Coast Guard vessel 3002 said, “I am grateful to all maritime police officers and conscripted policemen who are diligently performing their duties for the people, putting aside the regret of spending the Chuseok holiday at sea away from their families. We will do our best to carry out flawless maritime patrol duties as usual so that the public can spend a safe and peaceful holiday.”
