[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in held a summit meeting with Borut Pahor, President of Slovenia, and expressed hope that Korean companies would participate in Slovenia's nuclear power plant projects, thereby expanding nuclear cooperation between the two countries.
On the 20th (local time), President Moon held a summit meeting with President Pahor at the bilateral meeting room of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, stating, "I hope that excellent Korean companies operating the same type of facilities will participate in Slovenia's ongoing new nuclear power plant construction project and the Kr?ko Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 facility improvement project, thereby expanding nuclear cooperation between our two countries."
He also requested the attendance of Slovenia's Foreign and Defense Ministers at the upcoming 'UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting' scheduled to be held in Seoul this December.
President Moon said, "On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, I welcome the opening of Slovenia's embassy in Korea and hope it will serve as an opportunity to promote human and material exchanges between the two countries." He also expressed pleasure at the improvement of logistics efficiency for Korean companies through the Port of Koper in Slovenia, a logistics hub for Central and Eastern Europe.
President Pahor responded, "The Port of Koper will be modernized within a few years and will become an open port for countries wishing to enter Europe."
President Moon also conveyed congratulations on Slovenia's assumption of the EU presidency in the second half of this year, saying, "On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Korea-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), I hope to further expand cooperation in future growth sectors and develop a 'strategic partnership' between Korea and the EU."
President Pahor replied, "Korea is an important partner in the Northeast Asian region and shares many commonalities with Slovenia," adding, "Slovenia hopes to be a good friend of Korea."
After the summit, an award ceremony was held for the two leaders. President Moon awarded President Pahor the 'Order of the Rose of Sharon,' and President Pahor awarded President Moon the Slovenian government's 'Special Service Medal.'
