Multiple COVID-19 Cases Confirmed Among Manufacturing Workers in Gwangju

As of 6 PM on the 20th, 13 out of a total of 29 people confirmed to be related to manufacturing industry

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A cluster of COVID-19 cases related to a manufacturing company occurred in Gwangju.

According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 20th, a total of 29 confirmed cases were reported as of 6 p.m. that day.

Among them, 13 cases, including numbers 4650~4657, 4659~4662, and 4664, were confirmed to be related to a manufacturing company located in Gwangsan-gu.

After case number 4613, who showed symptoms such as sore throat the previous day and tested positive, was confirmed to be an employee of the manufacturing company, health authorities conducted mass testing.

Out of 25 people tested, a total of 21 (19 employees and 2 acquaintances) tested positive, and the 4 who tested negative were all placed under self-quarantine.

There were also 8 new confirmed cases infected through contact with existing confirmed patients.

Additionally, 1 person related to testing of foreigners in Gwangsan-gu and 2 people related to a middle school in Buk-gu tested positive. All three were confirmed positive while in isolation.

One case related to confirmed patients from other cities and provinces was reported, and 6 symptomatic individuals with unknown infection routes also tested positive.

Meanwhile, as a result of mass testing conducted by health authorities on the staff of a middle school in Nam-gu, Gwangju, where case number 2883 from Jeonnam is enrolled, all 587 tested negative.

Through epidemiological investigation, 35 close contacts were identified and placed under self-quarantine.

Health authorities plan to conduct in-depth epidemiological investigations including CCTV and GPS analysis to reclassify contacts and make every effort to prevent further spread if additional cases occur.
