[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] Twin volleyball players Lee Jaeyoung and Lee Dayoung, who were expelled from the V-League due to a school violence scandal, are reported to be preparing to depart for a transfer to the Greek league.
On the 17th (local time), Greek local media FOS reported, "The visa issues of Lee Jaeyoung and Lee Dayoung have been resolved," adding, "They are expected to join PAOK Thessaloniki by next Tuesday or Thursday at the latest."
Greek local media reported that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has approved the transfer of the twin sisters Lee Jaeyoung and Lee Dayoung. According to the report, FIVB conveyed to PAOK that "the punishment the twins must face is limited to Korea," and "if the Korean association does not agree, we will intervene." It also explained, "PAOK benefited from the twins' controversy, acquiring players worth about 200,000 euros (approximately 278 million KRW) each for 40,000 euros (approximately 55.5 million KRW) each."
Previously, Lee Jaeyoung and Lee Dayoung were negotiating a transfer with PAOK, but the Korea Volleyball Association refused to issue the International Transfer Certificate (ITC) due to social controversy, causing difficulties in the transfer. At that time, the association cited regulations restricting overseas transfers for those who have been disciplined by related volleyball organizations such as the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC), the association, and affiliated federations, and whose disciplinary period has not expired, or those who have caused social controversy or significant damage to the volleyball community due to sexual violence, match-fixing, draft evasion, or other disgraceful acts.
However, the Turkish agency promoting the twins' move to Greece officially inquired with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) regarding this matter. In principle, FIVB requires the international transfer certificate to be issued by the volleyball association of the respective country, but if FIVB approves, overseas transfers are possible regardless of whether the certificate is issued.
Lee Jaeyoung and Lee Dayoung were at the center of controversy in February after it was revealed through an online community that they were perpetrators of school violence. At that time, the victim exposed that they suffered severe physical and mental harm from the twins during their school days. In response, the Korea Volleyball Association indefinitely revoked the twins' national team qualifications, and the twins admitted to the abuse and posted an apology on their personal social media accounts.
