[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Among the confirmed COVID-19 cases, one person in their 20s has died.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 20th, a total of 5 COVID-19 confirmed deaths occurred the previous day, including 2 people aged 80 or older, one person in their 70s, one person in their 50s, and the remaining one person was in their 20s.
The CDCH explained, "The deceased person in their 20s was hospitalized in a medical institution due to underlying health conditions," adding, "After a confirmed case occurred within the medical institution, they were tested and diagnosed on the 5th of this month." The person in their 20s died while receiving treatment.
Among the total 2,409 cumulative deaths in the country, 9 have been people in their 20s so far. Although the fatality rate for those in their 20s is relatively low at 0.02%, the number of deaths has been increasing recently.
One person in their 20s died on each of July 28 and 31, and August 15. Considering the two deaths reported on August 21, a total of 6 people have died within less than two months. All had underlying health conditions in common.
The overall COVID-19 fatality rate in the country is 0.84%. As vaccination rates increase, the fatality rate is decreasing.
