[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Amid the intensifying North Korea-China closeness within the context of US-China competition, China held a banquet in Beijing celebrating the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the North Korean regime, showcasing the strong ties between the two countries.


On the 20th, Korean Central News Agency reported, "On the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic (September 9), the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-DPRK Friendship Association jointly held a celebratory banquet in Beijing on the 17th."


The banquet was attended by Li Ryong-nam, the Special Envoy and Ambassador to China, and members of the embassy. On the Chinese side, Lin Songtian (林松添), President of the People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, officials from the Communist Party's International Liaison Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Central Military Commission participated.


President Lin emphasized, "(North Korea) has overcome all kinds of difficulties over the past 73 years and made great progress in carrying out the socialist cause," adding, "The China-DPRK friendship has continuously strengthened despite changes in the international situation and the times, and is passed down through generations as a shared treasure."


Ambassador Li also responded, "In accordance with the intentions of the top leaders of both countries, we will actively work together with Chinese comrades to firmly develop the China-DPRK friendship and cooperation relationship to a new, higher level."
