[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongnam Province announced on the 19th that 26 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported within the province.


By region, there were 10 cases in Yangsan, 5 each in Changwon and Haman, 3 in Miryang, and 1 each in Gimhae, Geoje, and Goseong.


Except for one confirmed case in Changwon who entered from Russia, all cases are locally transmitted infections.


Among these, 8 cases in Yangsan and 3 cases in Miryang are related to a medical institution in the Yangsan area.


Five are hospitalized patients, one is a discharged patient, two are staff members, and three are contacts.


After hospitalized patients and staff tested positive on the 16th, additional confirmed cases were found through contact tracing and mass testing.


The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the Yangsan medical institution has increased to 37.


One confirmed case in Haman is a family member of a confirmed case related to a local manufacturing company II and tested positive during quarantine. The cumulative confirmed cases related to the Haman manufacturing company II total 16.


The confirmed case in Geoje is a family member of confirmed cases related to local businesses and religious facilities and tested positive during quarantine. The cumulative confirmed cases total 43.


Among the remaining confirmed cases, 8 had contact with confirmed cases within the province such as family and acquaintances, and 2 were infected through contact with confirmed cases in Seoul and Busan.


The infection routes of 2 cases are under investigation.


The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 10,847 (386 hospitalized, 10,428 discharged, 33 deceased).


Meanwhile, as of 6 p.m. on the 18th, the first dose COVID-19 vaccination rate in the Gyeongnam area reached 71.1%, with 2.36 million residents vaccinated.


For the second dose, 1.43 million people have been vaccinated, recording a vaccination rate of 43.1%.


The health authorities urged residents who wish to advance their vaccination schedule to actively utilize leftover vaccines, as leftover vaccines, initially allowed only for the first dose, have been available for second dose recipients since the 17th.
