Nationwide, 1,355 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed by 6 PM... 235 Fewer Than Previous Day

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] As of 6 p.m. on the 19th, 1,355 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide.


According to health authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, a total of 1,335 confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. on the same day. This is 235 fewer than the 1,570 cases recorded at the same time the previous day. Compared to the mid-day tally of 1,234 cases last Sunday (September 12), it is 101 more.


Looking at the regions where cases were reported on this day, 1,027 cases (76.9%) were from the metropolitan area, and 308 cases (23.1%) were from non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers are as follows: Seoul 489, Gyeonggi 444, Incheon 94, Busan 46, Daejeon 34, Gyeongbuk 33, Daegu 31, Chungbuk 30, Jeonbuk 27, Gyeongnam 26, Gangwon 23, Gwangju 22, Chungnam 18, Jeju 10, Ulsan 5, and Jeonnam 3.


Confirmed cases were reported in 16 cities and provinces nationwide, excluding Sejong. Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0 a.m. on the 20th is expected to increase further, reaching the 1,600 to 1,700 range.


On the previous day, 340 additional cases were reported after 6 p.m., bringing the final total to 1,910.


The daily number of confirmed cases has remained in the four-digit range for 75 consecutive days since July 7 (1,211 cases). The 20th will mark the 76th day.


Regarding major cluster outbreaks, infections continue in various everyday settings such as markets, kindergartens, and construction sites. Since the 11th, a total of 36 people have tested positive at a market in Jung-gu, Seoul. At a kindergarten in Nowon-gu and a market in Gangseo-gu, 20 confirmed cases have been reported since the 15th, classifying them as new cluster infections. Additionally, at a construction site in Namdong-gu, Incheon, 14 cases have been reported since the 13th; at a daycare center in Ansan, Gyeonggi, 18 cases since the 10th; and at a medical institution in Yangsan, Gyeongnam, 28 cases since the 15th.
